School Holiday Bikeability Courses
We usually run 'learn to ride' and Bikeability Level 1 courses during the summer holidays and occasionally during other school holidays.
Do check back regularly if there isn't a date for the course you want or fill in our form and we will add you to the waiting list.
Sometimes we have funding to deliver these courses free of charge and sometimes we have to make a charge but we always need a deposit to secure a place (refundable when training takes place).
See below for age and competency requirements for each course.
We also run family training days which are an opportunity for adults and children to brush up on their cycling skills and learn the best way to cycle together on local roads. These are usually funded so free of charge.
For more info about maintenance sessions see here.
Age 3 - 5
No competency required
Complete session (2 hours) will have frequent breaks with several 20 minute 'mini' sessions after which we expect most children to be able to 'glide' a few metres with both feet off the floor.
Bikeability Level 1
Age 3 - 11
Ability to ride a bike in a straight line and round a corner unaided.
Session will last up to 2 hours depending on number of children in the group.
Bikeability Level 2 & 3 delivered as a family training day
Children and adults must have the ability to ride a bike with one hand and be comfortable with cycling on quiet roads.
Session will last about 3 hours. First half hour will be an assessment of ability then the instructor will decide on the level of training.
As a minimum we will expect to cycle on local quiet roads and cycling infrastructure (Level 2). Level 3 standard involves traffic lights and roundabouts which may be used if the instructor assesses competency.
