During school holidays we sometimes run courses which are free for children who attend Chesterfield and NE Derbyshire schools. Level 1 & 2 courses are also free for children who attend Bolsover schools.

Book a place here - 25th or 27th

Aimed at children from 4 years old up to year 3 or 4,  training will be in small groups ideally on their own bike without stabilisers, we may be able to supply bikes but contact us first.

Bikeability Level 1 - contact us.

The first stage of Bikeability in control of your own bike, aimed at school year 3 & 4 children. They should be capable of starting, stopping and completing the circuit of a playground on their own. The session will consist of a series of fun riding skills activities which prepares them for Level 2.

Bikeability Level 2 - 27th July 2023, Queen's Park Chesterfield 9.00am until 11.30am

Book a place here

This is for children in year 5, 6 or 7. Ideally they will have completed a Bikeability Level 1 course previously but to take part in this on road course riders must be able to control their bicycle without assistance and be able to ride with one hand for at least three seconds in control so as to be able to signal. Instructors will assess each rider before going out with traffic. The instructors decision will be final.

Bikeability Level 3 - contact us

Children must be 11 years old (year 6 or above) and they must have completed a Bikeability Level 2 course previously. Riders should be familiar with riding on roads and able to demonstrate Level 2 skills. Instructors will assess each rider before going out with traffic. The instructors decision will be final.

The Level 3 course will include riding on busier roads, traffic light controlled junctions, roundabouts etc as well as discussing route planning and whether to use cycling infrastructure.

Level 1 will probably be in groups of 12 + riders, parents/carers need to stay. Both levels 2 & 3 will train in small groups of riders with 2 instructors. Parents/carers will need to sign a parental consent form including medical information on arrival, please contact us beforehand if you have any concerns. Parents/carers will also need to stay for a short while during which the instructors will assess each rider to make sure it is suitable for them to proceed to the on road training, if not they will not be able to continue and we will suggest alternative training.

Please collect your child promptly at the end of the course. All riders taking part must wear a bicycle helmet (not full face motorcycle style). All bicycles used should be of an appropriate size, have inflated tyres, must have handlebar grips, a saddle which is fixed and two working brakes. Two working brakes is a legal requirement for Level 2 & 3. BMX bikes are acceptable but not the most appropriate.

Ideally children will have their own bikes and helmets but if not please contact us and we may have some available to borrow. After you book a place you will be sent a registration form on which you can indicate you need to borrow a bike/helmet. If at all possible it is better for riders to use their own bike.

Weather cancellations will be at the discretion of the instructors and will be notified up to one hour before the start. Note that light rain will not necessarily cause cancellation. All riders should be clothed appropriately and if sunny have sun protection.

Courses will assemble and finish in the Queen’s Park north car park off Boythorpe Road (opposite Travis Perkins). Contact us if you have any questions or want to enquire about courses.

If courses fill up we may add extra dates, if you find there isn't a suitable date please contact us.

Please arrive in time for a prompt start at the time indicated when you book.

Level 1 courses are 1.5 - 2 hours. Level 2 & 3 courses are intended to be delivered non stop for 2.5 hours but riders should have a drink with them and a means of carrying the drink.

All riders that complete the courses will be given the appropriate Bikeability award of badge, certificate and booklet.
