Chesterfield SSP has commisioned Wheely Fun Wheels to deliver all its cycle training. The funding is secure until 2020.

For schools affiliated to Chesterfield SSP we offer a cycling pathway that children can take part in from age 5 to 11:

Reception

All children are offered balance bike sessions and a chance to use a pedal bike.

Groups of up to 12 children have 3 sessions of about 30 minutes each over a 3 week period and then the opportunity to take part in balance bike festivals annually just before february half term.

We bring bikes and all equipment needed.

Free of charge to schools.

Year 3

Bikeability Level 1

Two hour playground session to develop cycling skills.

One session is free, subsequent sessions in the same financial year are charged at £180 per session. Depending on playground size we suggest a group size of between 20 - 25 children.

We bring 6 bikes for each session for children who don't have their own.

Year 3

Learn to Ride

Children identified at Level 1 who can't yet ride a two wheel bike may be offered 'learn to ride' sessions.

Year 5 or 6

Bikeability Level 2

Children are taken out onto local quiet roads in groups of up to 12. Usually over a full day and a morning.

Schools are charged £0.80 per student to cover the cost of the Bikeability award.

We can supply bikes if children don't have their own (free of charge).

Year 6 or 7

Bikeability Level 3

Children are taken out onto more challenging roads in groups of 4. A route planning and theory session followed by 2 hours on road.

Schools are charged £0.80 per student to cover the cost of the Bikeability award.

All students taking part in Bikeability funded training will receive the appropriate Bikeability award.
